Origami Tunic Tour

I may have just made myself the most comfy top EVER!  Keep on reading to see how I used the Origami pattern by Love Notions (affiliate link) to create a fun comfortable look.

I spent a week or so going back and forth deciding what style of this pattern I wanted to make and what type of fabric blend I wanted to use. When I thought I was ready to go with the handkerchief hem with a rayon spandex blend fabric, I pull this cotton spandex floral out of my stash! But then the fabric would be a little heavy for the handkerchief hem so I decided on the staight hem. And that wasn't enough either, and thought a band for the bottom hem would look fantastic.

I printed and prepped my pattern for the regular style hem and removed 3 inches from the bottom of the front and back bodice pieces. I measured the width of the pattern piece at the hem and multiplied by 4 since the pattern piece represents 1/4 of the width of the garment. To get some negative ease in the band I multiplied my total width by 0.8.  The band at the bottom was cut out at 6.5 inches high. For a large I ended cutting a band that was 38.5" X 6.5".

I decided on a 3/4 length sleeve, but you can find 3 different sleeve lengths in this pattern to suit your needs.

Will I make it again, you can bet. I actually went back to the original idea of the handkerchief hem in a rayon spandex blend and have it cut out and ready to sew up...which should take me about 45 minutes IF I don't get interrupted by a child asking for snacks, ha!

Back to School 2017 - Day 2

Today Ula of Lulu & Celeste is hosting the tour, but I still get to show off one of my makes. This one was actually ready weeks ago, I know, a bit unusual for me!

Little Amelia is going into grade 1 so I thought comfort and style all in one. For this outfit I used Jalie 3245 Raglan Top & Tunic and the leggings are the Dressage Leggings by Jennuine Design (affiliate link). The fabric is from the Sidewalk collection by Cloud 9 available at Club Tissus.

I think it was determined long ago that Amelia loves pockets, and how adorable is the design of these pockets!

I still can't get over how Jalie can offer 29 different sizes in one pattern and still offer up such a great fit!  You know what that means, I need to make one of these raglan tees in my size! Instructions are available in French and English and although very to the point, they are very easy to understand. I hope that through this tour you will discover everything Jalie has to offer, I've been sewing with their patterns for almost 20 years and have never been disappointed by fit.

For the Dressage Leggings, they have been my favorite for a few years and trust me when I say I've made many, many pairs of leggings using different patterns. Size range available on these is new born to size 12. Two different style have been drafted, the regular leggings that you see here or for more fun and tons of style make a pair that look like riding pants... super cute!

The fabric was supplied to me by Club Tissus for the purpose of the tour and also to be showcased in one of their stores. The selection of fabric is beyond what anyone can imagine! They have knits from Art Gallery, to Birch, to Cloud 9. The quilters cotton available in their stores from popular designers including Riley Blake, Michael Miller, Camelot and so much more! The website is all new and the translation from French to English is beautifully done. More than worth it to go take a look! From now until the end of the month take advantage of free shipping with orders over $75.00. Use the code "livraison75" at checkout and make sure to select the free shipping method to activate the code.

Thank you to all our sponsors!

Jenny by SisBoom

I've made Jenny by SisBoom before...a few years ago. I remembered how easy it was to get a nice fit even with a larger bustline. This dress started off as a muslin, it was simply to see if I needed to make any additional changes to get that perfect fit.

I knew my muslin would still be a wearable dress so I looked in my fabric stash and saw Color Brigade by Jennifer Paganelli calling my name "over here, choose me!" AND I really wanted a pretty floral dress. The type of dress you can dress up with some pretty accessories or slip on a pair of flip flops, tie up your hair and go and still look put together.

I started reading and measuring, printed the right size for me and started cutting my fabric. I didn't follow the instructions to assemble exactly, but the end result was the same, a well fitted dress!

This is the inside of my dress, and yes I needed a little extra fabric for the lining, but since it doesn't show I took a little bit of "Good Company" to finish it off. My zipper tape is enclosed between the lining and the main bodice which meant a little hand sewing, and I finished off the lower edge of the bodice lining with a bias tape. Those were the little changes I made.

Making clothes for me is a little bit harder since I have a lot of adjustments to make. I'm always making a full bust adjustment (FBA), but this pattern has it all figured out for you.

So now wish me luck, I'm about to start the "real" dress. Its actually the bridesmaid dress I'll be wearing in less than 10 days at my sister's wedding!

Until next time, xx.
